General

Q: What is SaidMe?

A: SaidMe is a secure "dead man's switch" service that automatically delivers your encrypted message to trusted contacts if you fail to check in within your chosen interval.

Q: How does it work?

A: Simple:

  1. Write an encrypted message for up to 2 recipients
  2. Set your check-in interval (1-30 days depending on tier)
  3. Check in regularly by tapping the pulse button or shaking your phone
  4. If you miss a check-in, your message is automatically sent from the cloud

Security & Privacy

Q: Is my message secure?

A: Yes. Your message is encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before being uploaded. We use envelope encryption with RSA-OAEP to protect the encryption key.

Q: Can anyone read my message?

A: Your message remains encrypted in our database. It's only decrypted when the delivery trigger activates (after a missed check-in).

Q: What data do you collect?

A: We only collect:

  • Your email (via Sign in with Apple)
  • Your encrypted message content
  • Recipient email addresses (for delivery)

We do NOT collect:

  • GPS location
  • Contacts list
  • Usage analytics
  • Device identifiers

Account & Setup

Q: How do I create an account?

A: Simply sign in with your Apple ID. No passwords or email verification needed.

Q: Can I use SaidMe without an Apple ID?

A: No. For security and privacy, we only support Sign in with Apple.

Q: How do I delete my account?

A: Go to Settings → Scroll to bottom → "Delete Account". This will permanently remove all your data, including your encrypted message.

Check-Ins

Q: How do I check in?

A: Three ways:

  1. Tap the pulse button on the Dashboard
  2. Shake your phone (if enabled in Settings)
  3. The app will remind you when check-in is due

Q: What happens if I miss a check-in?

A: After your interval + grace period (if configured), your encrypted message will be sent to your recipients via email.

Q: What is Grace Period?

A: Grace Period is a safety buffer (0-48 hours) that starts after your check-in deadline. If you forget to check in on time, you have this extra window to check in before any messages are sent. This feature is available with Lifetime Access.

Q: Can I pause check-ins?

A: Yes! Toggle "Armed" status in Settings. When paused, no messages will be sent even if you don't check in.

Q: What if I'm going on a long trip?

A: Either:

  • Pause delivery ("Armed" toggle in Settings)
  • Set a longer check-in interval before you leave (up to 30 days)

Messages & Recipients

Q: Can I change my message after I write it?

A: Yes. Go to the Message tab and edit anytime. Your message is re-encrypted with each save.

Q: How many recipients can I have?

A:

  • FREE tier: 1 recipient
  • LIFETIME ACCESS: 2 recipients

Q: Can I send a test message?

A: Not currently, but you can verify recipient email addresses work by checking they receive them correctly.

Q: What if a recipient's email bounces?

A: Lifetime Access users get 3x resend attempts (every 24 hours) to maximize delivery reliability. FREE tier gets a single delivery attempt.

Pricing & Upgrades

Q: Is SaidMe free?

A: Yes, we offer a FREE tier with basic features (30-day interval, 1 recipient).

Q: What is "Lifetime Access"?

A: This is our premium upgrade (formerly "PRO" or "MAX"). For a one-time fee (£7.99 or equivalent), you unlock:

  • 2 Recipients (Backup)
  • Custom Check-In Intervals (1-30 days)
  • Grace Period (0-48 hours)
  • Smart Resend Logic (3x attempts)
  • Due-Soon Reminders

Q: What happened to the MAX tier?

A: We simplified our pricing. All features previously in MAX are now included in the single "Lifetime Access" upgrade. If you previously purchased PRO, you have been automatically upgraded to include these features.

Q: Is it a subscription?

A: No! Pay once, use forever. No recurring fees.

Q: How do I upgrade?

A: Go to Settings → Tap "Upgrade" → Complete purchase.

Q: Can I restore my purchase on a new device?

A: Yes. Go to Settings → Scroll to bottom → "Restore Purchases".

Troubleshooting

Q: App crashes on launch

A: Try:

  1. Force quit the app
  2. Restart your device
  3. Update to the latest iOS version
  4. Delete and reinstall the app (your data is stored in the cloud)

Q: Face ID / Touch ID not working

A:

  1. Check Settings → Face ID & Passcode → ensure SaidMe has permission
  2. In SaidMe Settings, toggle "Require Face ID" off and on again

Q: Purchase not working

A:

  1. Check your Apple ID payment method is valid
  2. Try "Restore Purchases" in Settings
  3. Wait 24 hours for Apple servers to propagate

If still failing, email us with your purchase receipt.

Q: Shake-to-check-in not working

A:

  1. Ensure it's enabled in Settings
  2. Shake more vigorously (needs a firm shake)
  3. Check your device has a working accelerometer

Q: Email not delivered

A: Check:

  1. Recipient email is spelled correctly
  2. Check recipient's spam/junk folder
  3. For Lifetime Access users: Check if resend attempts were made (Settings → History)

Technical

Q: What happens if your server goes down?

A: If our server is down during your check-in window:

  • Your grace period (if configured) provides a buffer
  • We have 99.9% uptime monitoring
  • Emails are queued and retried automatically

Q: Does SaidMe work offline?

A: You need internet to:

  • Check in (updates the server)
  • Save/edit your message

But the delivery system works without your device (cloud-triggered).

Q: What if I lose my phone?

A: No problem:

  • Install SaidMe on a new device
  • Sign in with the same Apple ID
  • All your data (message, recipients, check-in status) syncs automatically

Q: Can I use SaidMe on iPad?

A: Currently iPhone only, but iPad support is coming soon.
